FWIW, I tried falconglass and falcongauges and WOW, my FPS went down to zip. Plus, it took FOREVER to get the sim even loaded. Granted, I have what would now be considered a low/mid range system, but it was just a horribly incredible hit. Put 'em on the shelf until I get a firebreathing monster of a computer (maybe, someday)

Hey Vegas
Only way I know of that Falcongauges can be run is on a client /server rig. My main machine is pretty hot: : ABIT Fatality AN8SLI AMD 4000+ WD RAPTOR 36 WD RAPTOR 74 2G KINGSTON DDR HIPER 580W MODULAR ...bur falcongauges will lag it down to a slideshow. but with C/S it is pretty sweet! |

Thanks Hipshot, my system is no where near yours
. I'll have to start saving my pennies. I was just playing around with both to see what would happen. So do you run falcongauges on a comparable system, or can you "cheap out" on a secondary?

Hey Hipshot
Just an idea for you! You could use a matrox triplehead2go to drive those 3x19" screens, you would only need one vga for all three then. Plus you get an incredibly large wide screen to game on. Of course your monitors have to be all vga but the effect looks pretty good to me! ![]() Unfortunately it doesnt work very well with F4:AF at present due directx7 limitations. It does work with SLI on graphics cards and the real bonus is that TrackIR will work, moving all three screens at once. Hope this is useful 'Rep out

Hey Rep, good to see you around...thought you might of got tangeled up with some of these wild women here in Texas n decided to go native!!!
I have wondered about those matrox cards..just haven't heard any reports on them from the sim community..might take a closer look. Could you clairfy for me how I could use 1 vga port on the matrox to run all 3 monitors? BTW..I picked up PaintSAhop Pro X, but all I have been abel to do so far is verify the thiskness of my skull!! Did you get your new rig set up yet. Hopefully that screenshot is from your rig. Like I said..glad your still with the group, always good to have more Viper drivers around...these Lockon guys are having too much fun!! On that note...do you think it strange that the Falcon community is'nt swohing much intrest in TB? Cant understand it.....it is an absolute HOMERUN addition to the genre. Plus, ya get to have more cool STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Well Hip, despite the best efforts of your fine women I manged to get myself back to blighty. Didn't manage to buy enough stuff to finish my rig but got some memory at a very good price (spent about 6 hours in Fry's, that place is huge!)
I believe the majority of the Falcon community are obsessed with getting totally realistic cockpit replicas to fly in (wouldn't we all if we could afford it) However I belive touch buddy is one step ahead of this. It allows for a totally flexible generic cockpit, which can be used for all aircraft. It also gives a nice futuristic feel, and more importantly allows my simpit to fit in my very small abode. So if the Falconeers are not using it it's their loss in my opinion. SimHq have done a much better review and explanation of the triplehead2go than I could do, check out the appraisal at http://http://www.simhq.com/_technol...logy_065a.html. I would really like one of these. With Paintshop Pro I found the best way to start is to follow the tutorials included with it, you get to draw some basic stuff, but it teaches you the majority of the features. I think the results are worth the initial effort. See you in those e-skies 'Rep out ![]()

Yeah, there's more than one sim out there. The great thing about TB is that you can change profiles on the fly. Flying Falcon and wanna switch to LOMAC? It's a couple presses of the touchscreen and you're off. It's quicker to change profiles than it is to fire up the sim.

Yeah, me too.
I actually started out with the idea of building a replica pit...bought the plans ,had them printed 1 to 1 , spent a couple hundred on a few really great panels, even did some woodwork on the center console. At that point I was almost $500 into it and had to face the fact that I lacked almost all of the things needed to build a cockpit... money, time , space, tools and most of all...knowhow. I have watched some of the pitbuilders...their work is nothing less than fantastic!!!!!!! But to tell ya the truth..If I could (and maybe someday)build a pit, you can bet I would incorporate TB into it...It's just to cool not to use!! And I am betting that a soon as some sim developer releases a sim with exportable MFD's...we will see a big jump in TB activity. As for me..I got my game...I got my gear..I am a happy pilot! |
