rugg, f4 confuses the hell out of me, is open falcon 4.4 different than red viper 1? If so do you install both or only one of them? If only one, which is better? I have from torrents openfalcon 4 and redviper 1. I cant find open falcon 4.4 on the torrents though, only a patch from 4.4 to 4.4.1. Do you have the full open falcon 4.4 or know of a torrent with it?

I bought falcon 4 the original i just cxnat figure out what to do with it.

Mike, I'm prolly the wrong guy to ask. I've mucked around with it a bit, but I'm thoroughly in love with LOMAC and I just don't want to spend time with any incarnation of F4 (because of limited free time). In fact, I just did some flight training tonite with 3Sqn, one of their guys is a pilot in training with the AF in Oz. The other is a Tweet instructor. I'm having tons of fun using real life procedures and flying with these guys.

Try SimHQ or Frugal's, you may find the answers over there. Or maybe some of the hardcore F4 guys here can help you out.

in regards to your flight training, you are flying the f-15c in lomac or allied force? sounds like fun, i might want to check that out when i learn some more.

We're using real life USAF training syllabus, and tonite we were flying F-15's. I can fly any of the planes so that's not as important as knowing how to operate with a wingman (or wingmen). We executed several 90 degree break turns with our planes 2nm apart and ended up line abreast at the same distances. Same thing with our landings, we broke over the center of the runway and landed 2 miles apart. I didn't kill or shoot anything tonite, but I flew 500 miles in formation with several turns in formation and at all times remained WVR (within visual range) of my flight lead.

Hey Mike,

OF 4.4 and RV 1 are two different "flavors" of Falcon each with their own merits.

OF sports some really nice avionics upgrades for those of us who are gadget freaks. RV sports an incredible overhaul of the graphics engine that gives VERY nice lighting and particle effects as well as really nice tweaking of the enemy AI. Both are well worth the download and I have both installed side-by-side on my system.

Truly the two best Falcon addons to come along in a LONG time.

Both also single-click install over your original F4 install. I've also read where RV installs directly over a Allied Force install if you don't have the original F4 version.

Hope that helps.

Wazoo, thanks for the input, I found out some of this info today on globalfalcon.org, OF4.4's site. I am excited to get into this "classic" in these new packages. Did you need to do anything special for side by side installs? I thought they make changes to the registry that makes it impossible to have both installed at the same time without breaking each other?

Also out of curiousity do you know if the stopworks pits work with these? I assume not..

Hey Mike,

Yes... it is a *bit* tricky to have both installed... but not major.

I do it the manual way by installing F4, renaming the directory to RedViper, and then editing the registry to reflect the new install path. I then export that registry entry for future use.

I then wipe out the registry entry and install F4 again and rename it OF4 and edit the reg entry to reflect the new path and export the reg again.

Now.. to play RV, I execute the RV registry (i.e merge it into your registry) and play.

Time for OF? Just double-click on the exported OF registry and play.

I believe there are multi-falcon utils out there... but this is easy and works flawlessly.

As far as Stopworks... dunno. I use Aeyes and they work on both....

Good Luck!

very cool. so is it just one registry key or is it a whole folder of keys that need to be changed? I just want to make sure i get the right keys..

I am installing of4.4 right now, its doing its SRTM thing now, sounds cool, i didnt know OF had that as an addon... So what addons do you use in addition to OF? Cockpit, I noticed tiles were also payware you can use during the install?

Just the Microprose folder under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE--->SOFTWARE.

Drill down to 4.0 under Falcon and it is about 5 or 6 lines to change the path. Then just export the Microprose registry folder.

I use the Aeyes Superpit 1.7e so I have a nice night pit in OF otherwise you have the day one which is too bright at night. RV cockpit lighting are such that you really don't need another pit for night flying.

I also have Tom's HiTiles...
