WBK,
I'm helping out a friend set up his TouchBuddy. He just purchased a new Win 7 PC dedicated to flight simming. After a lot of work, we were not able to get the client PC (Win XP) to send characters to the server PC (Win 7) . So as a starting point, I have a number of questions: 1) Has anyone successfully set up a TouchBuddy on a Win 7 PC in Local mode? 2) Has anyone successfully set up a TouchBuddy on a Win 7 PC in a client/server mode? 3) I don't believe my friend is using pass words on either system, unless it is to log on at boot up time. So when you configure the TouchBuddy.cfg file, what entry should be made in the pass word segment of the CFG file? Can you comment it out, or do you just put in a blank space between the asterisks? Example; "server_password = ** **" 4) Any suggestions where we go next? The issue is probably somewhere in a "permission" dialog box, but we were no able to find a solution. Bill Clark |

1) Yes, I have no problems.
Can't help in Network setup though. Have not done that.

WBK,
Do you know if it is possible to do client/server configuration using Win7, or even Vista? In other words, has anyone you are aware of done this before? I didn't see anything on the forums. Otherwise, I'll may have to hope some one can respond to this question, or I will post in one of the other hardware forums. Bill Clark |

I don't know. I don't see why not.
Do you have both the Win7 and XP pc's networked and already sharing files and folders? I have my Win7 64bit networked through a router to my old Dell Win XP 32bit pc sharing files and folders. I had to do some research to figure it out. I think I had to install XP SP3 to make it work. Maybe some other settings as well, but that was part of my problem...

WBK,
My friends system has SP3 on his WinXP client system. However, we haven't set up sharing yet. So that will be the next thing we do. I do have one other question about the password: I don't believe my friend is using pass words on either system, unless it is to log on at boot up time. So when you configure the TouchBuddy.cfg file, what entry should be made in the pass word segment of the CFG file? Can you comment it out, or do you just put in a blank space between the asterisks? Example; "server_password = ** **" Bill |

I don't know about passwords in TB. I setup my file sharing months ago and have one the Win7 passworded, and the XP not. I don't know how I got it to work, but it wasn't hard. The only hard part was not having XP3. I just got errors and nothing indicated that I needed SP3 until I found a post about it one day. Then it work pretty easy.

Anyone had any success running server mode on Win 7(64bit) Prof? Had client/Server mode working on all XP machines in past. I can get local mode to run on Win 7 but the demo file will not send the typed responses to an open Note page, so not sure if it's working. Client mode runs but haven't tested as I want to run game machine as server. Server mode just hangs in "starting server mode". I've tried placing TB.exe(and programs) in both 64 bit program file and x32 bit file. I've tried running in compability mode from vista to xp and allowing all permissions -- still no go. Any guidance or help appreciated. Thx

I don't use Client/Server mode.
But have you tried putting TB in a folder 'outside' of both your Program Files folders? Win 7 uses a security feature that prevents you from manually editing things in your Program Files folder. I put TB on my D: drive. Or even just a folder on your C: drive, like C:\TouchBuddy Also, have you tried to run TB as Admin? right click on the .exe and select Run as Administrator.
