Hey guys i need your help, i upgraded to a 8800GTS 640MB EVGA card recently from my 7950GT 512mb. I didnt notice much of a difference in flight simulator x and i heard it was huge difference from the 7950gt, so i ran performance test, a small benchmark software and its giving me slower 3d speeds than my tests with my 7950gt! So now i am worried that the card is defective and i only have a week left to exchange it from newegg and want to make sure the card is not bad. Maybe its the drivers, thats what i am hoping cause i heard they were bad for the 8800 series. I am running windows xp btw. So where you come in is if you have a 8800GTS please run performance test and run the 3-d tests and post your results. I uploaded the installer to rapidshare to make sure you run the same version/software as i am, its shareware (30 day trial) it doesnt install anything except the program (no extra crap) and there is no viruses or spyware (you can check for yourself of course) The link is RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting
Even if you have the 8800GTS 320mb that will still be helpful since its the same chip. Thanks guys, i appreciate it. Mike

I ran version 6.0 of this test. The graphics scores were as follows:
3D Simple: 1617.2That should at least give you a baseline comparison to validate against. There are a number of other performance benchmarks out there that might be better than this test but this gives you apples vs. apples (although it might be Macintosh vs. Granny Smith ).Hope this helps...I like my 8800GTS. I have the eVGA 640MB version and am running the 97.92 forceware drivers.

have you run 3dmark06? if so what was your score? i got 8800 or something like that with the free version, but i didnt run 3dmark06 with my 7950gt. i did have a bsod after installing the 8800gts once in FSX after an hour of flying so thats what made me think the card was bad but lomac is fine, so i am leaning towards a driver issue.

I got 8816 with 3dMark 2006...compared to similar systems, that's on the low end. Not sure what might be wrong, if anything. I'm currently rebuilding the SW on my secondary system and if I try to screw around with the new rig, I'll be guaranteed to break something
.I don't understand thee CPU tests...I was getting 0 to 1 FPS...I know it's faster than that on my other games. Well from what i have seen the 1fps is normal for that cpu test..... they are probably running that while doing massive prime95 like calculations at the same time...
If you take a look at alot of those systems that make ours look "low end" many of them are overclocked video cards, cpu's or both. so you gotta take that into account...

Hey Mike, just saw this. I was one of the one's who told you about my upgrade experience to an 8800GTS 640mb so I feel bad it you're not getting what you expected, so I ran this tool:
Simple: 1718.7 Medium: 571.0 Complex: 63.4 3D Graphics Mark: 753.1 Passmark: 90.4 Cpu is an x6800 at about 3 ghz. Forceware 97.92. 2gb of ram. These types of things just don't give the the warm & fuzzies, I use game benchmarks to tell me the real story, not these unknown synthetic things. About the only exception to that is the ATITool utility which I use as a general benchmark to see temps, overclock, etc, and has a framerate tool for a particular rotating complex object. My driving sims like rFactor has a hotkey to show framerate, the difference between a 7900GTX -> 7950GX2 -> 8800GTS has been over 100% (over double) in the end, with same detail and resolution. So of course I upped all the details to max and the resolution to 1920x1200 and my framerates are back to the same. Which is locked at 60hz now anyways because I use VSync when not goofing around. The ATITool rotating object fps I talked about went from mid 300's to about 1000, so somewhere over 2.5 X. I'm sure the flight sim stuff has an onscreen fps readout somewhere? Hope this helps with whether or not you got a bum card. |
