Wild Bill,

Have you ever considered hosting your site on the AVSIM forum? A lot of other developers use this site. I have a friend who is part of this organization, or used to be. So he might be of help.

Thanks Bill,

I am just really a moderator/lurker here. Dodger has been hosting and webmastering the site from the beginning. I hope he can find someplace to host the site. But I am not really up to the task. Maybe he will see your post and that could be an option for him to contact them..

If you need a host, I can help. I can place unlimited addresses to my hosting account, so it would be no bother. Simply have to transfer the domain name, and off you go.
For a character reference ask Ruggbutt about me.

Dodger needs more than just a domain name transfer. He has some family issues and would like someone to take over all that he has been doing as Webmaster. He hosts, provided the forum software and did all the maintenance. All I do here myself really is moderate.

If you are interested in doing all of this please PM him. The site at this point pretty much has been running itself. He has not had to do much except pay the hosting bills since he set this all up a few years ago. If he does not answer your PM, then PM me and I can get you his email.

Thanks for your offer.
WBK

For the most part what I do at work is spend time online, taking a few min out of my day to help would not be a big deal.

I have GoDaddy hosting my site, and have a good package, bandwidth should not be a big problem now that the world depends on youtube...
Ill get my ducks in a row and shoot him an email when I get back to work

No problems M8.

Will a backup of the site fit on a DVD? Maybe you can send me a backup if someday someone can host for us?

Hey Bill, As I said, you can transfer the entire site to my host server @ Godaddy, I am only unsure about "Pointing" everyone to the host. Domain transfer is what I think will have to take place.
At any rate, my Deluxe host account gives me plenty of head-room. There are currently 5 sites tied to it, and all that is involved is that they exist in a folder, and all sub folders, example >
Main site>
site 1> site 1 forum> site one pics.
Site 2> forum>
Site 3>pics>
and so on, it is no big deal, and I am sure bandwidth is not either.

I think there is much more involved than you understand Vagabond. As I said, PM or email Dodger. There is website software to install, configure, setup, and maintain, and bug fixes when things don't work. I am just a Mod, Dodger did all the hard work.

I'm aware of what kind of work is involved, as I have my own VPS, and run my site off of three different servers / domains.

You're running Vbulletin 3.73. Now the problem is, this software will ONLY run on touch-buddy.com. The domain has to be transferred, and someone has to have the codes to download not only the database, but also the picture, avatar and attachment files (usually not in the database, but in seperate folders on the server). Moving one of these is work, and it has to be done correctly otherwise it won't work; I've done it a few times before, and sometimes you just have to pray to the gods that you didn't miss some unix permission, or install the database correctly.

Also, be aware that vbulletin 3.7 series, though still great software, is "old". Series 4 is out, and the new license, with their new CMS, is I think 285. The forum only software is 195, and the original purchaser has to buy that. A new license is 250. Upgrades to series 3.7, what few there are as it won't be supported well in the future, is only available to the guy that purchased it from vbulletin.

So, there are issues that need to be thought of. May 14 is around the corner.
