WBK,
I have a contact at AVSIM, who used to be on the board there....so maybe he could help. Currently, AVSIM hosts PMDG forum, Radar Contact forum, Active Sky forum, and probably many others. I really hate to see this site shut down and go away. I suppose if all else fails, maybe the touchbuddy SW, profiles, and anything else, could be posted in the AVSIM library or, in libraries on other flight sim websites. At least people could download it. WBK, possibly you could answer questions on the AVSIM forums, unless you feel you have served long enough as the Mod on this site? Your thoughts? Bill Clark |

Hey WBK and Russbo,
Fortunately you can easily test a migration. I have all the necessary permissions except for domain transfer, but I can organize that as well. The database and file system is pretty easy. Permissions aren't a big deal (there is an easy guide on the vb forums). Version 3.x to 4.x is a major upgrade. Many of the mods that drive this forum would not migrate, resulting in reduced functionality. My recommendation would be to migrate to current version, then do an upgrade to latest 3.x release. Russbo, do you have root perms on your VPS? Tks.

Thanks for the kind words Dave.
I am happy to continue being a Mod and/or answer any questions wherever TouchBuddy Ends up. I just don't have the skills to setup and maintain the software even though I am a software engineer by trade. I just don't have the interested to learn all that new stuff. But I am happy to continue as a Mod. I posted on the Lockon forums about the site closing in about two weeks. Maybe somebody will be able to help. Worst case we can probably get a forum setup somewhere with some sim website and I can even just host the software and files on MediaFire or Rapidshare.

Yes, I control the server, it's a VPS account, not a regular domain hosting account (though I have a few of those too now...). And I've upgraded VBulletin (and moved it) god knows how many times over the last fourteen years. I don't always enjoy it as sometimes you have to get into the MYSQL server to fix stuff; I usually add lots of stuff to my vb forums. It's at Shaolin Temple Perspective
If I remember correctly, I have one of my other sites also on the VPS, russboasia ITC: Muay Thai Training in Phuket I can't remember how I altered all the DNS settings and stuff. Last edited by russbo; 04-28-2010 at 03:16 AM. |

Erik from Combat Ace said he could host this site. I'm not sure if it would be integrated into the Combat Ace forums but I would imagine so. Let me know if you guys wanna do this. It wouldn't be the first flight simmer's site he saved.

Erik never got his confirmation e-mail so I'll post here what he said about saving the site:
I'm not sure about the post on touchbuddy's site. I would reply over there but I never got the validation email for my account. Regardless this is what I would have said. I would leave the touchbuddy site as is which means only the physical hardware would change but nothing to the enduser would change. I would not integrate them into the combatace forums as doing so would almost certainly destroy the integrity of the data. Specifically every post is associated with a user that user has a specific userid and now that both databases are established integrating users, userids, along with content and posts is very complex. For that reason I'd leave the forums separate from the CA Forums. This would involve a fairly simple process which I can do as long as the proper access exists which it should and it can even be done when it doesn't as in the case of the mirage factory. A) Domain Name change to repoint the domain to the new IP, will have to be done with the domain registrar. B) Backup the database. C) Backup the site files. D) Install software for forums, move files, and import backup database files. I recommend PM'ing Erik (that's his login at Home) to set up the transfer.

I spent a few hours last night dinking around in the VPS server and reaquainting myself, as I've been away from it for over a year. (Also upgraded to lastest vbulletin, which was fun..., talk about database issues.) Getting married, moving internationally and having a child has taken its toll on my server play time, but I'm back.
If yoiu guys end up with no other feasible options, I'll open an account for you on my server. If you transfer it, upload it to the way you like it, I can manage it for you. |

Rugg, PM me Eriks email and I will get him registered on this site. The notification/registration emails on our site has been flakey for years. I receive absolutly no email notifications of any kind from our site. Some users don't receive their email verification email either, but most do I believe.
I'll let Dodger respond to the other questions, as I am just a Moderator pretty much here.

Hey Rugg,
I manually confirmed Erik on the site. Please ask him to come join this forum thread. Russbo, sounds good also and I know what you mean by tinkering time when you get a family. I've almost forgotten how to SSH. ![]() Between Russbo and Erik I am sure we can find a good result. D
