Client machine ... Keeps the focus?

I use Teamspeak on the Server purely to transmit so I can use my keybind from the gaming machine. Mic is plugged in the Mic Jack of the Server, and Headset plugged in the Headphone jack of the client.

On my Client machine (XP Pro) I run TB, but also have Team Speak running as my Rx Only. Game sounds come via the 5.1 surround system, and just Team Speak is heard in the earpiece of my gaming headset.

I can easily switch Team Speak Channels, because I have a Tab on my TB Profile purely for this function (throw a switch to change channel).

However, to change channel on the Client machine I have to Iconify TB to physically change the channel in the TS window.

I had an Ergodex gathering dust, so I thought to myself "Aha", "I can program/use the Ergodex to change the channels". That way, I can leave my TB profile running. However (and here lies the problem):

With TB running, the client machine doesn't recognise any Ergodex key presses. With TB iconified, and TS with the focus, the Ergodex works (I can change channels). This thing (the Ergodex) works with games running (that I presume) have the focus, so is there a reason why it's not working when running my profile on TB?
