Default Screen choice

Gang, Two things;
I've seen a couple of nice monitors on eBay and I wonder if you chaps would run a critical eye over them.

150147211964 Is here in the UK, but there's no mention of the data connection.

130139526727 Is in HK, but the sellers recent feedback is all good. This does mention a USB connection.

Secondly; About connections, I assume a screen in this application needs two connections, one for video and one to send touch data back to the machine? I'm planning to use the server/client model as I will be playing Armed Assault.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Hi Paul,

To answer your last question first. Yes, touchscreens have 2 connections. One for the Monitor part, and one for the Mouse part of the touchscreen.

The first one (150147211964) says in the title 'PC INTERFACE', and does not say USB. So, I'm guessing that maybe it does not use a USB port for the mouse, and only uses mouse port? Since most pcs only have 1 mouse port, your other mice would have to be USB probably. Not a problem in general, but that would limit me. But if that's ok with you I guess it works. Also, I have not seen anybody with a touchscreen that does not use USB ports as the interface for the mouse, so I really cannot tell you much more on that.

Also, I don't see where this one mentions it's Native Resolution. I would go with a Native Resolution of 800x600 if I could find one. Have you read the threads in our FAQ section?

The second one (130139526727) does have a lot of info about it. And it says it uses a USB for the Mouse, 800x600 Native Res, VGA PC Input, ect...

Also, several users have bought touchscreens from HK and I have not seen any posts of any problems with the purchase, delivery, or functionality.

Good Luck with your choice...

WBK

Thanks for that Bill. I am tempted by the HK one, even though I'm likely to get hit for import taxes because as you say, it does seem to be the more complete item.
I have read the FAQs - spent much of this week doing so and helpful they are too, but there's nothing better than a direct ebay link for descriptive purposes!

I'm narrowed it down to the two following, both imports.

The lilliput from carmate1 on ebay from the US for around £100 and

the the super e0249 from eonon.com. Again, around £100, this from HK.

I've used eonon before, he has an eBay shop and is great, but the one from the US is drawing me in. 2 reasons, the lilliput has a great reputation here and it's case lokks lots better than the other one.

Well, good luck with your purchase! You'll love TB. And if you fly IL2 or PF I am updating my profile for that sim in a few weeks.

Actually, I do fly occasionally in IL2, but I'm more of a grownup FPS man at heart.

I was really happy with my Lilliput. One of my squaddies is using it now and he loves it. You'll be happy with your choice I'm sure.

In a cruel twist that only serves to bump up my post count...

The UK based one I mentioned in the first post has told me that it does indeed use USB for data. I'm still unsure of the native resolution, but it goes as high as 1024 x 768 so I'm assuming 800x600 should be easy for it. With it being in the UK and at £112 delivered next day, we now have a new front runner!

It may support 800x600, but is that it's 'Native' resolution?

@Rugg: Your link to the TS Buttons is broken. Some guys have been asking for it.

That remains to be seen. None of the online literature on this screen give a native res.
