I think its time to link to all those online companies, distributors, resellers and eBay shops that sell touchscreens that we have bought stuff from, just to make it easier for other to find them.
I`ll start with my LinITX unit: http://linitx.com/index.php?cPath=64...fadbcaeb55ea9b

I got my AutoPC 8" TFT from a company called Greatest Sale. Quick shipment and well packaged...received 3 days after order. Price was $220 plus $12 shipping. Seems to scale well from 640 x 480 to 1024 x 768 ... native is 800 x 600. I'm not too sure they aren't all the same inside anyway

OK, I bought the 8 inch TFT from the link below in the UK. Had a problem with the supplier ie: they went out of stock just as I ordered and it took 2 1/2 weeks or so to get stock in.
When it arrived, discovered it had a European 2 pin power plug, this was after I asked them to make sure I got UK 3 pin ![]() But, give them their due, to make up for the delay, when they did get it in stock, they sent it next day delivery. I emailed them the as soon as I discovered the 2 pin plug and they sent one out by next day delivery. Installed touch buddy and after figuring out how to configure the screen it worked fine. | Touch Screen From AVShoppe |

Thought I'd give you a brief overview of my Touch Screen that I got from AVShoppe on ebay. It seems to be a good screen, very clear and its native resolution is at 800x600 although it will handle 1024x768.
The driver disk that came with it was not that good, but the download of the beta drivers from http://www.egalax.com.tw worked fine. It works with multiple monitors very well, the touch screen settings need a little adjustment to work correctly but once done everything is peachy. Sometimes during use the screen emits a high pitch whine, (probably the line oscillator) which I can hear but nobody else seems to. It dies down over time and is not audible when playing any games. The screen does get warm to the touch but not overly so. Combined with TB it works fantastically, I am enjoying my flying so much more now, not having to remember convoluted key commands makes the game much more pleasurable. |

I bought the 8" version in silver, it doesn't appear to have a name, hence the reference to AVShoppe. Here's a link to the units.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOP-QUALITY-8-...QQcmdZViewItem It works well on my systems, using both nVidia and ATI graphics cards. |

That's weird that it doesn't have a name. The silver frame looks similar to my Innovatek, but mine has the controlson the right side.

NICEVIEW 8" Touchscreen
I got my touchscreen from here: http://www.ipcmax.com/product_info.p...a22f0f8c20d60f They're based in Finland but have an english website as well. The screen is named Niceview. It is 8" with native resolution of 800x600 (and downscaling of 1024x768) with built in speakers. Inputs are VGA (15pin DSUB) (or SVGA) and VGA as well as audio and USB. The screen looks exactly like the one on the website except there's no "Niceview" sticker on mine. So it is beautifully black and stylish! Cost was 249EUR + 29EUR for shipping within EU. I placed my order last Sunday, it was sent the very next day on Monday at lunchtime and I had it in my hands on Thursday! =) And that's with the cheapest freight alternative... The box didn't include any kind of manual (not even on the MiniCD with the drivers supplied - which by the way you shouldn't use. Download the program everyone else here seem to use as that is a more recent version of the same TouchKit software that's on the CD). Also available from here: http://www.egalax.com.tw/eg/drivers.htm Follow the Innovatek TM-868 Setup Instructions on Touch-Buddy.com's FAQ forum for the instructions as it's the same. Anyway, without a manual I got into problems (and I hadn't read the above FAQ). So some tips: DO NOT INSTALL the PS/2 drivers (that's an option in the install program). I am in the middle of a complete system reinstall and decided to try it for fun, which was a bad decision - I had to activate the windows keyboard mouse system to solve the issue and play with the system device manager with *several* reboots to follow. Then I had *a lot* of problems with the NVidia control center and Dual View. Since I normally have a projector attached to my graphics card second output it seems NVidia drivers thought that the touchscreen could run at 1280 resolution - and I couldn't change it. To make a very long story short - despite me having two 19" monitors and the projector to play with I had to try and "catch" a display settings window on an invisible monitor and drag it to my main monitor before I could access the display resolution settings and get the touchscreen to run at 800x600... Not the monitors fault though but NVidia drivers which are far from perfect IMHO. Just wanted to add this though so if someone runs into the same problems as me they should know it is possible to solve them. And just because the touchscreen flickers or is black it most probably isn't faulty. Final verdict of Niceview 8" and IPCMax.com What I like: Found a good price IMO The monitor is stylish. Black with silver stand. (All TVs and monitors I have needs to be black). Quick shipping Works great Includes 12V car adapter and all A/V cables Following input modes VGA/SVHS/VHS/TV What I'm less fond of: The screen (as most other here) has no direct VGA input port. It is via a special cable that plugs into your VGA output. This cable is unshielded and thereby sensitive to EMI. And as the others it is an analogue connection. The imageis perfect at 800x600. It is very slightly blurred at 1024x768 since it is not native. But at 640x480 there seems to be some glitching errors. Not that 640x480 really matters to me - and besides, the screen isn't supposed to support it anyway. It only shows during the boot sequence really. So this problem is no biggie for me. I would have preferred if all inputs came from the backside of the screen. As it is now two are from the bottom and three from the right side. A minor issue though. There is one final thing though. One of the cables included is totally unknown to me. It is probably some sort of composite video cable, or perhaps an antenna cable. I will have to take a picture of it when my camera is back from repair and see if anyone of you guys can tell me what it is for... =) Now on to play with TB! |
